Toddlers are awesome and I want to be a toddler. No, I am not drunk. I write from experience of raising a toddler and being both exasperated and in awe of these little monsters. They are cute little beings (atleast they look cute) who keep you on your toes and almost always (ALWAYS !) get their way. They are kick-ass negotiators and have the ability to make an impression (yes, grunting, crying, screaming, whining and making a fuss requires effort). While parenting a toddler is a herculean task I truly admire the toddler gumption and look upto them in admiration (sic!). So, I am certain that I want to be a toddler and given below are some compelling reasons of why
I want to be a toddler so that I can respond with a “No” to every question that I am asked with alarming regularity. Except when there is ice-cream on offer.
Masters of the art of persistence
E. Hickinson was referring to a toddler when he said “Try and try again until you succeed.” These little people DO NOT know how to give-up. Want something? Just ask for it AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN till you get it. Simple. Brilliant.
Toddlers do not hold back. They are not made for diplomacy and will make no secret of their love or anger. They will say what they feel and when they feel it no holds barred. “Mama phoooo phooo phoo“. From the spontaneous hug to breaking into a dance to lying on the floor to grabbing the phone to speak to grandma without actually uttering a word is perfectly normal toddler behavior! I wish I could be so uninhibited in my communication. Sigh.
I want to be a toddler so I can get to the bottom of every possible “why” in the world. I am convinced that toddlers would make great investigative journalists. They believe in the pursuit of truth 😉 Well some things just need an answer NOW no matter if mommy is in the bathroom or pulling her hair out trying to conjure an answer to yet another inane question !
Chief Repetition Officers
Want to repeat any activity multiple times? Just harness your inner toddler. No kidding.Toddlers have a strong practice ethic ! They can do the same thing a zillion times and not be bored or tired. Whether it is sorting clothes or listening to a single song on a loop, you have got to appreciate the single minded focus with which toddlers attack a task.
Nap time is celebrated
A toddler that naps is much loved and celebrated. Ain’t it great that people are actually pleased when you take a nap? Infact if you are a toddler then everyone at home is probably rooting for you to take atleast a couple of naps. That is really FANASTIC. I rest my case. I want to be a toddler. DEFINITELY!
